What ages are your classes for?
Our classes are great for kids 11 months – 7 years old. If you have kids outside of this age range, you are welcome to join our classes to judge if they are appropriate for your children. Since our classes are mixed ages, it might be best if your little one can stand and play on their own a bit.
When are your classes?
Our classes are held year-round! We believe children should play outside whether it’s warm or cold, rainy or sunny. Every season brings new adventures and things for our little ones to discover and explore. We hold classes in 6-week semesters and release new dates throughout the year. You can join for the full semester (1 1-hour class each week) or drop in when you’re available.
Where are you located?
We are located at 1 Kingsley Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. The entrance is on Brookside Ave next to the church across from Clove Lakes Park. Please follow the steps and path to the right of the church.
Is there parking?
There is plenty of street parking in front of our entrance on Brookside Ave. Brookside Ave is a one-way street. To park on Brookside Ave, turn onto Benedict Ave from Manor Road then make a right turn onto Brookside Ave.
What should my child wear?
Come prepared to get your hands dirty and feet wet! Dress for the weather and in clothes you don’t mind your child getting messy in. If you’re concerned your little one will get too messy, we recommend dressing them in rainboots and a rainsuit (something like this or this) that you can easily take off after class. For the winter, snow pants, snow boots, thermals, hats, gloves, and scarves (lots of layers!). On rainy days, raincoats/suits, pants, and boots keep the kids dry. In the summer and on sunny days, sun hats, comfortable footwear, and sunscreen keep kids protected.
What will we do in a Wild Roots class?
We begin each 1-hour class with a short group activity to encourage socialization and get kids warmed up. Then, we’ll head into our fenced play space for unstructured play and exploration. Some activities include a mud kitchen, obstacle course, water play, sensory table, discovery zones, and more! Special theme classes for holidays and seasons will also be held.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you are unable to attend a class, email us at hello@WildRootsNY.com at least 2 hours before the class begins. You will be able to attend a make-up class in the same semester, when available. If you cancel a class at least 7 days in advance, you will receive a refund or the ability to reschedule to another class in the same semester, depending on availability.
Do you still have class in the rain/snow/cold?
Yes! Wild Roots Explorers classes take place year round and in all weather, rain, snow, or sun, as long as the “RealFeel” or “Feels Like” temperature is above freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit). Class will be canceled if dangerous weather conditions are forecasted, such as heavy rain, blizzards, hurricanes, wind advisories, or extreme heat. An email will be sent out at least 1 hour before the class starts if a class is canceled. All children scheduled to attend that day will receive the option of a makeup class. These makeup days will be scheduled by Wild Roots Explorers and alternative makeup days will not be offered. PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL BEFORE EVERY CLASS.
